Petition / The Generations Park – A paradise for all ages

In February 2022, a plan for a Generations Park, which was developed with the participation of citizens, was adopted by the municipal council by a majority of 7 votes to 4.

The LSAP/DP Board of Aldermen ‘reviewed’ these plans and threw the entire underlying concept overboard. The new plans were presented to the municipal council on 23 May 2024. A large number of the planned elements will not be present in this new minimalist park with no concept: There will be:

  • no playground for all children
  • no fitness equipment specially designed for senior citizens, despite the park’s proximity to the seniors’ flats opposite the Centre Culturel
  • no rolling area for the little ones, ideal for their first experiences on a scooter or a balance bike
  • no access for people with reduced mobility from as many directions as possible
  • no garden for the crèche on the opposite side
  • no yoga area

It should be pointed out that these changes were made without the participation of the citizens. The changes were not even voted on by a majority of the local council.

Dear reader, please sign our petition and demand that the aldermen let the citizens decide whether the concept of the Generations Park, or rather the new park without a concept and almost empty, should see the light of day.

Why can’t we show you the modified plans here?

The Council of Aldermen has not published its modified plans, nor have they been submitted to the Municipal Council. A written request has not yet been answered.

The plans were only briefly shown on screen at the municipal council meeting. According to our information, they have also not been made available to an advisory committee for it to give its opinion.

The Generations Park – A paradise for all ages

The Generations Park would be a unique place in Sandweiler that would meet the needs and desires of all age groups. Here, families, friends and individuals of all ages could enjoy nature together and spend their leisure time in an environment that promotes health, pleasure and relaxation.

The Generations Park would not just be a place to have a good time, it would be a place that would transcend expectations in terms of leisure activities. By offering a multitude of activities suitable for all ages, the park would create an intergenerational space where every citizen could find their enjoyment. Children would develop their motor and social skills through play, while teenagers and adults would benefit from modern fitness facilities and relaxation areas to recharge their batteries. Seniors, meanwhile, would find this a valuable opportunity to maintain regular physical activity in a friendly environment.

Interaction between the generations would be encouraged by the diversity of the spaces on offer. Whether you come to exercise, play, relax or simply enjoy nature, the Generations Park would be designed to enrich your relationships with family and friends. The play areas, sensory garden, crèche garden and fitness areas would create natural opportunities for young and old to meet and exchange ideas, strengthening the social fabric and community cohesion.

What’s more, the quality of the facilities and the beauty of the park, as voted for in 2022, would make every visit a revitalising experience. The contact with nature, the opportunity to take part in a variety of physical activities and the peaceful atmosphere would help to reduce stress and improve general well-being. Spending time at Generations Park would be a choice for a healthier, more balanced life, while forging precious links with those around you.

The project would include the following blocks:

• Fitness area – Your outdoor gym
A modern fitness area would offer a variety of equipment adapted to different fitness levels. The fresh air and natural surroundings would make workouts particularly enjoyable.

• Water Playground – Refreshing and Fun for the Little Ones
The water play area would be the ideal place for children to have fun and cool off on hot days. This area would provide hours of aquatic fun. Parents could relax while their children will play in complete safety. No need to go far to have fun.

• Playground – An area for fun and creativity
A play area would invite children to give free rein to their imagination and go exploring. Having different structures, there would be something for every child. Little ones could make new friends and experience unforgettable adventures together.

• Fitness Equipment for Seniors – Active and Healthy
The Generations Park would offer exercise equipment specially designed for seniors. This equipment would promote mobility, strength and balance, helping to maintain and improve health. Seniors would be able to exercise here in a friendly environment while building social links.

• Roller Zone – Fun on Wheels
Our Roller Zone would be the perfect place for toddlers to ride a scooter or a balance bike. A smooth, safe surface would allow them to improve their motor skills and gain confidence. Parents could watch in peace while their children enjoyed the ride.

• Sensorial Garden – Nature for all the senses
The sensorial garden is a place of wonder. A variety of plants, scents and textures would invite you to discover nature in an entirely new way. This small space would encourage full awareness and provide the perfect setting for relaxation.

• Yoga Deck – Find Your Inner Balance
Our yoga deck offers the ideal environment for your yoga practice. With a view of nature, you’ll be able to practise in complete tranquillity and bring your body and mind into harmony. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced yogi, the yoga deck invites you to deepen your practice and find inner peace. The yoga courses that were offered in the municipality until 2023, which were very popular, show that this sport appeals to a number of people in Sandweiler.

• Lawns – Relax and let yourself go
The lawns at Generations Park are the perfect place to enjoy a picnic, read a book or simply relax in the sun. Surrounded by greenery, you can leave everyday stress behind and recharge your batteries.
