On Thursday 19 October, a presentation meeting regarding the changes to the redesigning project of the rue d’Itzig took place at the Centre Culturel.
As is becoming the rule for the new council of aldermen, as few residents as possible were invited, even though rue d’Itzig is one of the main roads in Sandweiler. Only the residents of rue d’Itzig received an invitation (see also our article of October, 17th).
After the presentation of the LASP/DP Board of Aldermen’s amendments, which stunned the numerous audience members, it quickly became apparent from the questions asked by many residents that these amendments met with widespread rejection. A thorn in the flesh, with not a single person approving, was the fact that 50km/h will now continue to be allowed in 2 1 places:
between rue de Contern and the pharmacy.(Update 23.10.2023: Misunderstanding rectified)- between the rue des romains and the rue de la gare.
Due to various accidents on the latter section, which has been classified as the most dangerous of the rue d’Itzig, it would be irresponsible, according to the unanimous opinion of the numerous residents, to maintain the 50km/h limit here.
After some heated discussions in which the Board of Aldermen did NOT answer the question about the reason for this change, the meeting was declared over despite further questions from several citizens on the part of LSAP Mayor Jacqueline Breuer, even though the concerned citizens’ questions were well motivated!
We as CSV will stay on the ball and keep you informed about the development of this affair.
Main adjustments to the initial project:
- 50km/h on
21 sections - Relocating the bus stop at Café Sandweiler Eck to the location 43, rue d’Itzig
- Removal of the projected speed bump at the village entrance at the height of rue des romains
- Slight increase in the number of parking spaces, especially at the Café Sandweiler Eck.
