For more than 20 years, citizens have been able to spontaneously ask a question to the College of Aldermen at the end of a local council meeting. Many citizens made use of this opportunity. At the same time, it enabled all the members of the local council to be informed of the ideas, opinions and concerns of the citizens. This is no longer possible. There are no longer public question-and-answer sessions. Citizens must book an appointment with the council of aldermen to ask their question at the citizens’ hour.
Apart from the name, there is nothing new about this citizens’ hour. In the past, citizens were always able to make an appointment with the mayor or the council of aldermen to ask questions, with more flexible timetables adapted to citizens’ needs.
To be reread, for example, using the “Wayback machine“.
In the opinion of CSV Sandweiler the possibility of asking public questions should be maintained at the local council meeting. Citizens shall continue to be able to ask questions in public. The transparency and equality of all local councillors must be maintained. Citizens must have the choice of asking their question in public or in a discreet meeting.
