According to our information, the College of Aldermen intends to sell most of the land located in the ‘Rolach’ and ‘Schaedhaff’ business and industrial zones, covering almost 18 hectares.
However, this land is not privately owned, but belongs to the municipality – and therefore to all the citizens of Sandweiler.
Why is this important?
These land parcels represent a strategic reserve for Sandweiler’s future. Selling them today means abandoning a long-term vision and losing control over the future development of these areas. They represent the largest portion of all land owned by the municipality.
‘Let’s build the future of our municipality together’ was the slogan of the college of aldermen. A few months later, that same college seems ready to sell off a large part of the municipality’s land assets without providing any information to citizens, without public debate and without presenting any alternatives.
A decision of such importance requires:
✔ Transparency
✔ Public debate
✔ Presentation of alternatives
✔ Careful consideration
Such a decision should not be taken by just 11 members of the municipal council without consulting the citizens.
