In the Municipal Council meeting of November 5, 2024, CSV once again stood up for the citizens.
Safety on the way to school
A few weeks ago, the aldermen’s assembly had the traffic bollard at the entrance to the footpath between the municipal building and the shops removed.
We ask ourselves: Why?
We have asked for this anti-traffic bollard to be reinstalled to ensure the safety of all pedestrians, and children in particular, by providing them with a safe route to school. This safe route to school has been developed for the 2020/21 school year in collaboration with the Sandweiler Parents’ Association and the Commission Scolaire.
The majority parties, LSAP and DP, voted against reinstalling the bollard during the vote.
Does the safety of children and pedestrians no longer have priority for this majority?

CSV Sandweiler is committed to ensuring that subsidies are distributed fairly between all associations.
We drew the attention of the aldermen to various inconsistencies in their proposal.
- Thanks to our intervention, DT71 Sandweiler and US Sandweiler each received an additional €600 in ordinary subsidies, in accordance with the regulations.
- In addition, the extraordinary subsidy for US Sandweiler was not calculated correctly.
The College of Aldermen had proposed an extraordinary grant of €6,000. According to US Sandweiler’s request and the regulations, they are entitled to around €20,000.
Our proposal to allocate this amount to US Sandweiler, in accordance with the regulations, has been postponed until the next meeting. We hope to be able to vote on it then.
We support our associations and it is important to us that subsidies are distributed fairly and in accordance with the regulations in force.
‘Oeuvres Paroissiales’, an association that is very active in the social field, requested a subsidy because it had to unjustly pay €23,800 in legal fees. According to the regulations, extraordinary subsidies for non-material costs are not permitted. We agree with the College of Aldermen on this point.
However, we have proposed to grant this association €6,000, equivalent to the maximum provided for in the regulations, for the purchase of ‘major equipment’. This could take the form of an increased ordinary subsidy or a donation.
Other local associations have already received donations this year for extraordinary non-material expenses.
Our proposal has also been deferred to the next meeting, and we hope that a majority will emerge to support this association.

247 signatures are ‘irrelevant’ to the College of Aldermen!
What importance does the College of Aldermen attach to citizens’ opinions?
In response to a question from the CSV, the alderman’s office confirmed that it does not plan to carry out a new survey on the park. We regret this.
According to a statement by DP alderman and future mayor Claude Mousel, the signatures are ‘irrelevant’.

Smoke-free municipality
We proposed that the municipality commit to becoming a smoke-free municipality. This proposal was rejected by the majority, despite the positive opinions of the committees consulted beforehand at the request of the College of Aldermen.
What importance does this majority attach to the next generation? What consideration does the majority give to the work of the committees?
The ‘Commune Sans Tabac’ label would have been recognition of the Commune’s commitment to defending the right of children and young people to grow up in an environment in which they will not be confronted with smoking and its consequences.

Renewal of the synthetic football field
The current synthetic football field is worn out and needs to be replaced. The project was unanimously approved by the local council. The estimated cost is €997.230,70, and work is due to start in June 2025.
However, the CSV regrets that the aldermen have once again presented the local council with a virtually accomplished fact. The tender procedures had already been launched, leaving no opportunity to discuss certain details.

Budget modifications 2024
The CSV asked for numerous explanations concerning the table of changes to the 2024 budget, which were presented to the Municipal Council. An amount of €245.800 was adjusted upwards for various items of expenditure in both the ordinary and extraordinary budgets.
The CSV voted against this decision. We truly ask ourselves whether the 2024 budget was drawn up with the necessary foresight beforehand.
At present, €561.500 have been underspent, leading to adjustments to the figures. On the other hand, €373.699,49 in additional income has been recorded, including €250.500 from interest alone, which is higher than at the start of 2024.
The CSV voted in favour of these changes.
